Made 100% from Kenton grown Pinot Noir, this wine was created by the saignee method. The red grapes are crushed and destemmed as for normal red wine production, but after some colour has been extracted from the skins of the red grapes, a proportion of the juice is bled off and fermented separately.
The result is a dry but fruity rose, with a beautiful deep pink colour, packed with strawberry and raspberry flavours and aromas. Serve on its own as an aperitif; alternatively, it will make a good partner for chicken or seafood dishes. Serve cool, but not chilled.
Kenton Vineyard is Devon's newest addition, located on the west side of Devon's beautiful Exe Estuary, nestling in the foothills of the Haldon Hills. Kenton Vineyard was planted in 2003 on a superb site for vinegrowing. It opened in May 2007 and launched its first wines during English Wine Week. The aim is to produce local wine of international quality.
Kenton grow all their own grapes, and make the wines on site in theirr purpose built winery, which is fitted out with new processing equipment and tanks. The grapes are not sent away to be made into wine elsewhere, nor do they buy in grapes from other vineyards. This means that they have total control over the product from vine to bottle. It also means that until the wine leaves the vineyard following purchase, there have been no “wine miles” traveled.
The owner, Matthew Bernstein, trained in viticulture and winemaking on the renowned wine studies course at Plumpton College in Sussex for two years. The grape varieties grown and the methods used in the vineyard and winery all derive from his experience there, and have been selected for their quality and suitability to local conditions.
