In 1999 hydrogeologist Geoff Bowen and friends planted a vineyard on sandy marl top soil on the underlying triassic pebblebed at Ebford. this was a community project with twenty local families tending to and harvesting the crops, and reaping the benefits! The success of this product led to further plantings in Ebford in 2002 and directly on pebblebeds at west Hill near Ottery St Mary in 2005 and 2006. the Ebford vineyard became organic in 2005 and is certified by the Soil Association. Pebblebed wines are produced by award winning winemaker Juliert White at Exe Valley Wines state of the art winery on their Yearlstone estate.
